Our Story

Understanding Yourself begins with the fundamental belief that meaningful change starts with understanding the patterns shaping how we experience our lives.

Meet the Co-Founders

Ben Lemmon

Ben Lemmon has spent his career trying to better understand why people do what they do, and what allows change to become something more than an idea.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Ben has worked in behavioral health since 2013. He created an intensive outpatient program for Lumiere Healing Centers, later served as its Clinical Director, and helped open Ohio Community Health in 2022, where he serves as Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer. He has trained, supervised, and mentored clinicians and has been invited by the University of Cincinnati to share his experience with Motivational Interviewing.

Understanding Yourself also grows from lived experience, from years of learning, questioning, changing, and becoming increasingly convinced that people often carry more of the answers they're looking for than they realize.

Major McNeil

Major McNeil has spent his career helping people and organizations get clearer about what they actually need.

A graduate of Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, where he studied interpersonal and intrapersonal communication, Major built his career in software development and data analytics. Along the way, he learned that the hardest part of building anything worthwhile usually isn't the build. It's the listening that comes before it, and asking the right questions.

He brings that same approach to Understanding Yourself, working with organizations to identify where the framework can genuinely help and building the partnerships that bring the work to life. Major also helps lead how we collect and use feedback and data, allowing the program to continue evolving alongside the people and organizations we serve.

Learning Not to Carry Everything Forward

Understanding Yourself grew from a simple question: Why do we continue carrying thoughts and feelings from one moment into the next, even after the moment itself has passed?

The stop sign is one of the simplest ways I’ve found to explain it.
